McCall's Country Canning,
Inc. started as McCall's Country in 1991 as a wood manufacturer for
the tole industry. As they (a team of two, at the time; Dee McCall,
artist, and son, Dan McCall) were developing a new candle box for
their tole customers, they decided to "make" their own
candles to go inside the boxes. Not knowing what a laborious process
it would
be, the long journey of candle-making began. McCall's later decided
to switch gears and develop their products for the gift industry.
The first candle products from McCall's were, as you may know, introduced
in old-fashioned paint cans with handles. Though these candles were
unique and well received, the real desire and request from most gift
stores was for McCall's to offer a jar candle.

McCall's did not want to be typical and offer the same type of
jar that most candle companies offered. While maintaining a high
quality candle, they wanted their image to be unique and different,
unlike any other. After months of trial and error ideas and brainstorming,
the classic of all classics was created - a country jar candle with
a rustic metal lid, stamped with the McCall's Country Canning logo,
and a decorative handle based around the neck of the jar. This candle
was and is like no other. As soon as it was introduced, it was a
hit. In fact, the orders they received exceeded their production
capacity. That year, they had to actually turn down orders because
they could not keep up! Later, McCall's relocated their company,
which, again, ceased production for many months. Fortunately, they
recovered! Today, McCall's is still a family-run company with many
valued employees, operating in Murrieta, California.
